What clients are saying...
Larkin helped me throughout my high school years. She assisted me in formatting essays and papers and taught me how to structure my essays. She showed me how to organize the myriad of papers I received each week so that I could keep on top of my work and my school activities. She taught me how to make study guides and study notes for my tests and quizzes. Without Larkin's consistent support I would not have made it to the Honor Roll and to college. I still use the methods we practiced over the years and they still help me today.

Student, now University of Denver graduate
Larkin was an absolute Godsend to my son who has significant ADD and language-based learning disabilities. He has always struggled as a student, yet he is extremely bright. His biggest challenges are in executive function which hits just about all facets of school life: paper management, scheduling study time, organizing ideas, turning in assignments on time, etc. In addition, his language and organizational problems make complex essay writing and research extremely difficult, bordering on impossible. Larkin stayed with him and assisted him in every aspect of his homework and studying. She not only helped him directly, but also gave him the confidence in himself to carry on and learn how to help himself. Larkin's gentle yet firm guidance gave my son hope, confidence, and the courage to keep trying. Today, he is a sophomore at an excellent university. While he will always struggle in school, thanks in large measure to Larkin, he knows he can do it.

How I approach
our work together
In sessions with students, we ask many hypothetical questions—performing mental rehearsals for potential experiences at school, home, and work. What obstacles might come up? How would you deal with them? What do you think you’ll need? What would make it more successful? How will you get started, even if you don’t want to do it? What will “done” look like?
With over 25 years as an educator and coach, I offer not just educational instruction but life instruction. Everything I do with my students and their families serves their independence and self-awareness. We set goals that span their academic, social, and home lives while tying life skills, self-advocacy, and executive function to everything we do.
Students explore metacognition—thinking about their thinking—and discover their individual learning styles. They gain the foundation for a life of self-advocacy, explaining both their gifts and limitations calmly and clearly, so people who don’t speak in those terms can understand, be it a teacher, boss, friend, relative, or partner.
I offer parents the opportunity to walk through daily routines and systems within the home in search of sticking points that may add to unneeded breakdowns. Some common focuses are morning and evening routines, room organization, and setting up successful environments for schoolwork and chore completion. As a credentialed special education teacher, I am also available to also address how students’ IEPs and 504s are working and what might improve their efficiency as well as how accommodations can be used at home as well as in the classroom.
